NLC X Talking Out Your Glass PODCAST: Silvia Levenson

synopsis

Born in Argentina, Silvia Levenson has been living in Italy since 1981. In her work, she explores the unspeakable space located between what we can see and what lies beneath. She uses glass in her installations and sculptures as a narrative lens, focusing on conflicts in families and in society.

Each episode explores an individual’s personal and professional development along with their passion for working with glass. These conversations, hosted by Shawn Waggoner, Talking Out Your Glass podcast, were made possible with the support from our funding partners Creative Scotland and Creative Europe.

Silvia Levenson

She received the Rakow Commission Award from The Corning Museum of Glass in 2004 , in 2008, she was a shortlisted nominee for the Bombay Sapphire Prize and in 2016 she received the Venice Glass Prize. She was artist in residence in 1995 and 1998 at Bullseye Glass Co,Portland (OR) , in 1996 at Musee Atelier de Verre de Sars Poteries, France and visiting artist at Australian University in Camberra in 2010.

Her work has been exhibited around the world and is a part of several public collections like The Corning Museum of Glass: New Mexico Museum of Art, Santa Fè; Fine Art Museum of Houston, Alexander Tutsek-Stiftung, Germany, Toledo Museum of Art, Racine Art Museum, Museo del Vetro di Murano, Venezia, Museo del Castello Sforzesco, Milan, Italy between others.

As editor of Glass Art magazine from 1987 to March 2019, Shawn Waggoner has interviewed and written about multitudes of the world’s greatest artists working glass in the furnace, torch and on the table.
