‘Cop Na Mara’ – Vicky Higginson
Vicky’s piece was inspired by the Caithness landscape of sea, cliffs, and fields, combining undulating colour with minimal engraving. Her own work also uses mark making on glass and is exploring qualities including transparency, line, pattern and colour. Much of the work includes a technique of engraving the inside of the pieces before blowing them out further or combining them in the hotshop to complete the forms.
Originally from Manchester, Vicky Higginson is a hot-glass artist, living and working in Edinburgh. She began working in glass during her 3D Design at Manchester Metropolitan University and went on to complete a Masters in Glass at the University of Sunderland. She has since been working as an independent artist, exhibiting nationally and internationally. She has won awards including the Student Award at the 2012 British Glass Biennale, The Edinburgh Craft Makers Award (2013 & 2014), and is the current recipient of Creative Scotland’s Emerging Artist Bursary. Vicky has undertaken residencies at the University of Sunderland, Cesty Skla in the Czech Republic and at Edinburgh College of Art, where she is the current artist in resident.
