Scotland’s Workshops has been initiated by 11 visual arts production facilities working across sculpture, printmaking, photography and glass: Scottish Sculpture Workshop, Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop, Glasgow Sculpture Studios, Highland Print Studio, Peacock Visual Arts, Dundee Contemporary Arts, Edinburgh Printmakers, Glasgow Print Studio, Street Level Photoworks, Stills and North Lands Creative.
The network has come out of a very particular history of committed artist-led activity, ambitious organisational development and strategic governmental support, creating an extraordinary resource, which is recognised as unique to this country. They have a strong public remit in developing skills and engagement in art.
The group members are all independent organisations with different approaches, but share key values of openness, collaboration and exceptional support. All of Scotland’s Workshops are part of Creative Scotland’s portfolio of Regularly Funded Organisations.
Scotland’s Workshops has been in the process of forming since 2017, initially brought together by a handful of its Directors who were keen to explore joint working and benefits of collaboration. The Directors and other staff worked during 2018-19 with Vis-à-vis Agency who helped the network establish a clear operating structure and strategic plan. The network officially launched with a new website and the first Workshops Week in November 2019.
