Phil Atrill was born in 1972. He studied glassmaking at Edinburgh College of Art and then gained a MA in Glass from the Royal College of Art, London in 2000. He was a recipient of research and development awards from the Crafts Council in 2004 and 2005. He has received scholarships to attend numerous glass blowing courses in Scotland, England and the USA. He makes unique sculptural objects, production ranges and commissions in glass. His current work explores the themes of fluidity, movement and the interaction of light. With each new range, he simplifies the main elements of the theme into more functional objects, such as wine glasses, vases or bowls.
