Madeline Mackay

Artist in Residence

My recent work examines life on a microcosmic level, looking for the moment of transition between living and inanimate matter. By observing the breakdown of flesh into ground I explore the unacknowleged ambiguities that exist between the two and seek to undermine unconscious conventions on the hierarchies of life and land.

Born in Northern Ireland, I grew up in the far North of Scotland and completed a BA (hons) in Fine Art at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design in 2012. My work is shown by a number of galleries both in Scotland and throughout the UK, and has been included in exhibitions run by national art institutions such as the Royal Scottish Academy, the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour and the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers. I am currently studying for an MFA in Printmaking at the University of Alberta, Canada.
