North Lands Creative
Youth Advisory Group

Young people have been hit hard by Covid-19 – especially their mental health and future job prospects. But we know that creativity can play a big part in helping improve mental wellbeing and also in building the skills needed to take on future challenges and employment opportunities.

North Lands Creative has received funding from The Ideas Fund to offer part time employment to 6 young people from Caithness to help us explore the importance of our creative projects and the value of creativity on wellbeing and the future of the young people who take part in them.

We believe that young people should not be left behind in this crisis and we wholeheartedly believe that creativity has an intrinsic role in helping young people to become more resilient for the challenges that lay ahead.

We are really excited to be recruiting young people for the new North Lands Creative – Youth Advisory Group. We want to involve a diverse group of young people, representing different backgrounds and life experiences across Caithness.

  • We are looking for Young People who:
  • – Live in Caithness
  • – Are age 16-25 on 1st October 2021
  • – Have a passion for having their voices and views heard
  • – Have the time to commit to this role and weekly meetings from October 2021 – September 2022, online and in person

Young People don’t have to have an interest or background in Arts or Creativity, but we do need Young People with opinions and who aren’t shy about saying what they think.

Young People will have:

  • – A chance to engage in local cultural experiences including glassmaking at the North Lands studio
  • – Opportunity to have their voices heard and represent their peers
  • – Develop and enhance their skills (e.g. artistic, research, communication)
  • – Learn to work in a small team and with the wider community
  • – A chance to connect with our project staff who include technical, creatives, administrative and researchers through mentoring opportunities
  • – Opportunity to influence North Lands policies and programmes
  • – Input on projects that interest them
  • – Add to their CV and gain valuable work experience
  • – Meet like-minded young people and most importantly, have fun!

Each member of the group will receive:

  • – Paid an hourly rate of  £9.50 during their time working on the project. (North Lands is a Living Wage Employer).
    • – We anticipate a minimum of 10 hours per month commitment plus extra hours during the project’s training, activities and events.
  • – Support to cover travel and childcare costs
  • – Tech support to access the online sessions
  • – Professional development and training
