GLASS MEET THE FUTURE FILM FESTIVAL 2021

20 march 2021 - 04 april 2021

Synopsis

Seeking Nowhere Film investigates the richness and challenges immigrants face when exposed to more than one culture. Sometimes, the decision to abandon their country is not easy. For others, leaving their homeland is an opportunity to learn different cultures and explore new horizons. Either way, it takes enormous courage and strength to do so, and for each of these travellers the experience is unique – even when the horizons are the same.
The short film combines audio interviews and images of Seeking Nowhere pieces made by kilnforming, laminating, and coldworking glass with 35 photographic decals of sea horizons.

ARTIST STATEMENT
Sandra Bacchi

I am a Brazilian and mixed medium visual artist based in Pittsburgh, USA. My studio practice focuses on inquiring about how human beings interact and how we can find similarities among ourselves.
I blend photography, filmmaking, and glass to tell my stories, weaving fiction into the truths to express more open-ended storytelling. This mix allows me to create three-dimensional objects, integrating texture, colour, and density to my photograph’s two-dimensional aspect.
In 2019/2020, I was an artist in residence at the Pittsburgh Glass Center, creating work for The United Exhibition. In 2021, I became one of Pittsburgh Glass Center’s board members.
