GLASS MEET THE FUTURE FILM FESTIVAL 2021

20 march 2021 - 04 april 2021

Synopsis

Existing within the medium of time, the film Flammable Statement No2 features Romina Gonzales mindfully writing “We Are Not Equal” with molten glass on a wooden surface. The act in and of itself is a meditative process on the significance of the words while coming to terms with its dual meaning. As each letter is carefully laid down, the wood catches on fire, creating a permanent print from the burning of the material.

My work focuses on the expansion of consciousness from a postcolonial lens— through a visual record of actions that elicit transformation to comment on society, culture and politics. Narratives are dictated by the syntax of mundane situations and substances that undergo simple and seemingly natural, yet arbitrary processes dictated by my own experience. These question perception, interpretation, subjectivity and cause-effect patterns, offering alternative perspectives within rational thinking and behaviour.
