GLASS MEET THE FUTURE FILM FESTIVAL 2021

20 march 2021 - 04 april 2021

Synopsis

Originally created as an ‘Instagram performance’,#digitalFeelings explores the relationship between the female body and social media. The girl, trapped in a screen, invites users to comment and define the limits of body objectivity, while the format and accessibility questions our almost preferred forms of online communication. The performance highlights the social anxiety that has to do with an excessive use of the service, and the struggle to conform with unattainable standards. The video was later adapted to fit an immersive experience in central London.

ARTIST STATEMENT
Sofia Cianciulli

My name is Sofia (b. 1993) and I am a multi-disciplinary body artist working between Florence and New York. These two cultures shaped my upbringing, with Renaissance art history’s sexual connotations melding with influences of New York feminism and its ideas of individualism and diversity.
My work combines Painting, Performance, Digital Media and Augmented Reality to consider the female body in the post-feminist media age. The work reflects upon the entangled and co-dependent nature of millennials and the internet, and responds with absolute transparency to modern narrative conventions that are inextricable part of my reality.
After an MA in Fine Art at Central Saint Martins, I was shortlisted for The Ingram Prize 2020, and exhibited internationally with venues including Lethaby Gallery, Tate Exchange and West Chelsea Contemporary. I also collaborated with some talented curators to create immersive digital experiences such as ‘The Digital Archive’, organised by Sook Spaces.
