Born in Sheffield and recently relocated to Whitby, Effie has been working with glass for over twenty years.
She has been a visiting lecturer on both the BA and MA glass courses at the University of Sunderland and taught various master classes in the techniques of casting and burnout.
She has exhibited her sculptural work internationally including shows with Contemporary Applied Arts in London and the Crafts Council in Tokyo.
A piece of her work was also selected for the prestigious ‘Coburg Prize for Contemporary Glass 2014’ in Germany and for the Ireland Glass Biennale in 2019.
Her practice is continually evolving. She is a Queen Elizabeth Trust scholar and the recent recipient of a ‘Developing Your Creative Practice’ grant from Arts Council England.
She has also been selected for the new HOMO FABER guide a unique digital platform dedicated to fine craftsmanship in Europe.
Her most recent work is a series of tiny sculptural gems cast directly from nature incorporating gilded detail.
