synopsis
This film is a short document of a new piece. I am currently exploring sound within my powder glass sculptures, expanding the scope of my work into experimental sound. Fabric of my Skin explores forcefully extracting something engrained/ entwined in one’s skin.
The image I worked from was removing a plaster that pulls not only skin but flesh from one’s body leaving it weak and fragmented. The sound is created by beating the glass pieces. Those glass sounds are processed live through a custom made rhythmic delay pattern, creating a continuum of statement and response.
In her work Beyaert explores our perception of the world. Using glass powders she examines the constraints of the material, resulting in diaphanous, crystalline glass sculptures. These forms are used for sound exploration. Combined with programming, projection, light and video they are played live to create immersive soundscapes/installations.
