With support from the Aspiring Communities Fund (awarded by the Scottish Government), North Lands Creative is set to launch a new, community-based social enterprise project under the working title of North Lands Collective.
North Lands sees creativity as a catalyst for positive, lasting change in people’s lives; through our work we want to enhance futures and enable people to flourish. Our aspiration for this project is to assemble an intergenerational, culturally diverse and inclusive group of participants who live locally but, perhaps through facing difficulties related to disability, ill health, low income or other personal circumstances, have previously felt excluded from the organisation; we want to offer such individuals the opportunity to access our facilities and to gain a combination of glass and business skills that are tailored to their personal abilities, needs and aspirations, and to assist them in exploring the potential of a community-led enterprise that, once established, could deliver strong social and financial returns both for them and the wider community.
To help establish this group and explore these possibilities, Karlyn Sutherland, the recently appointed Development Manager for this project, will lead a period of community consultation which will begin in late November; the purpose of these forthcoming meetings and discussions will be to share in more detail the passion and aspirations that North Lands Creative has for this creative venture, how it could benefit the community, and, most importantly, to open the door to community-led conversations that will help to not only bring the North Lands Collective into being, but also to shape its future.
