Wishing to study a creative subject? Need an entrance portfolio? Don’t worry! We know it can be a daunting. It’s a skill you continually practice, so relax and enjoy it, be you. Show them what you love and what you want to do most.
I’m Beth Henderson, one of the outreach coordinators at North Lands Creative. A 2016 graduate I have been asked to write post giving you all hints and tips I felt important or wished I knew when creating my own entrance portfolio.
Well there is lots of great and sound advice out there, read it, take notes but for me I have found there is one thing more valuable and wished I did more of; talking . Now I can be a chatterbox with my friends and family but reaching out to others in a similar position or part of the creative profession I wanted to follow wasn’t something I really learned to do until my third year at university. It’s something you may not feel 100% comfortable with but is something I urge everyone to do, stick at it! Friendships, advice and amazing opportunities can come from just a simple hello ….
In the spirit of my top tip I have done just that. Rallying university friends I asked them one simple question:
‘If you could go back in time, what advice would you give yourself while creating your entrance portfolio?’
The answers noted are bellow, illustrated by Ummi Jameel a graphic designer and a university partner in crime who I think encapsulates the ethos of show them you and what you love! I hope you enjoy it and find our hints and tips helpful!
